School Prayers

Praying with your child

One of the most beautiful things in this world is the prayer of a child.

Through the Sacrament of Baptism, a child, filled with the life of Jesus awakens in the early years to the wonderful truth that he or she is loved by God.  This overwhelming truth, forming the foundation of the child's developing faith, brings to his or her heart a most profound and loving trust in God, our Father. And so begins in the child a life of prayer.

The prayers here are the main prayers the children use in school.  It is to be hoped that they will also be used at home.  With these prayers as examples, you, the parents, will be able to encourage your children to compose their own prayers.  Such prayers, coming straight from the heart, are the best of all.

You will recall that, when your child was baptised, the Priest said to you in the name of the Father, and as he gave you a lighted candle, "This light is entrusted to you to be kept burning brightly.  This child of yours has been enlightened by Christ, and is to walk always as a child light."  What better way can you carry out that trust than by teaching your children to pray, not only alone, but with you and your family.

May Jesus and His holy Mother, Mary, be close to you as you guide your children to them.
