Homework
During the week children will have:
- Spellings
- Abacus or other numeracy
- Literacy homework
Literacy, Numeracy and Spellings are given out on a Friday and the Literacy and Numeracy MUST be returned by Wednesday of the following week at the latest.
Please ensure that you support your child with their homework.
Home Reading Books
Your child needs to read every day, this will develop reading and writing skills. Each child takes books home and the books must be kept in good condition. Please sign your child's record book to show that you have heard them read and feel free to write any comments.
Parent Volunteers for Reading
We would greatly appreciate any parents who would be kind enough to volunteer to read with children in classes.
SATs
As I'm sure you are aware, year 6 is the children's final year when they will sit their SAT tests. The goverment are still in the process of finalising the full format and marking criteria of these tests despite it being the second year they will be distributed. Therefor this academic year is being referred to as another 'transition year'. We will inform you fully when we have our meeting with parents in the Lenten Term to discuss in detail the tests.
The results of these tests will be included on your children's education records for the rest of their school career, and are sometimes used by secondary schools to make choices about individual class placements. We will send a letter to remind you of the time and date of the meeting and will hopefully be able to share some sample papers in order to give you an idea of the content.
Thank you for your support
