Support for Year 1 during closure
Welcome to Year 1. Please read the following carefully as it will give you all the information you need.
Every Friday your child will receive a piece of literacy or numeracy homework which is to be returned the following Thursday. Please ensure your child understands what’s required of them, and then support and encourage them to complete the task.
Learning Log homework will be sent home every half term. Your child can draw, print pictures from the internet, write or create something using other materials about the topic.
Spellings will be sent home once a week. They will be tested the following Thursday.
Your child needs to read with you every day, as this will help to develop both their reading and writing skills. It’s important that your child enjoys reading at home and it will help if you can find a calm and quiet time to do so. In order to improve their reading comprehension, please ask your child questions about the text, characters and setting and encourage them to make a prediction about what will happen at the end of the story.
Parent volunteers for reading
We would appreciate any help from parents who would be willing to come in to school on an afternoon to listen to children reading.
The children have PE on a Friday afternoon. Children need to have a full school PE kit, including navy blue shorts, a white T shirt with the school badge, socks and black plimsolls. All kits need to be labelled with your child’s full name.
Please make sure your child attends school every day and arrives on time. For children to achieve their full potential, it is vital they have high attendance. If you have any concerns which you would like to discuss, please feel free to arrange a time to come into school.
Many thanks for your support
