Year 6 French Trip Day 4
It's the 75th anniversary of D-Day, and the final day of our trip to France. Today, we visited Sainte-Mere-Eglise. On the morning of June 6th 1944, the Airborne troops parachuted in, and after a lot of fighting liberated the town.
We visited the Airborne Troops Museum, and saw lots of planes that were used on D-Day. The children especially liked the recreation of the Airborne troops parachute drop, and gained an understanding of how the troops must have felt.
We then visited the town and saw some parades and flypasts. We also saw the model of John Steele, who famously got stuck on the church spire. We then saw inside the beautiful church, which still has bullet holes in the wall.
