Year 6 French Trip 2018 - Day 2 Part 2
Our day in Mont Saint-Michel was packed with lots of walking, and seeing the wonderful sites!
The children had the opportunity to look around the shops to get souvenirs and food. We then ascended the countless steps to the top of the island. This looked onto some breathtaking views. After looking around the many rooms, at the top of the 8th Century Abbey, we made our descent.
We stopped for our lunch at a small picnic location, before continuing towards a German War Cemetery.
Mont-de-Huisnes was inaugurated on 14th September 1963, and is the only German-built burial-vault in France. It is a large circular, two-storey vault with 34 chambers on each level. Each chamber holds 180 of the war dead. This showed us the huge human cost the conflict had.
We arrived back just in time to freshen up before dinner, and will then enjoy the disco and chill-out time this evening!
