Our House Saints
Our House Saints
Our House Saints are the four Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. An evangelist is “one who announces the good news”.

St Matthew
|
St Matthew originally worked as a tax collector for the Roman Empire. Tax collectors were regarded as traitors. When Matthew met Jesus he immediately left his old life behind to become a disciple. He wrote the first Gospel. After Jesus’ death he travelled far and wide preaching the Christian message. His symbol is a winged man. How can I be more like St Matthew?

St Mark
|
St Mark was a disciple of St Peter, not one of the Twelve Disciples of Jesus Christ. He wrote the second Gospel based on the apostles teachings and testimonies. It is believed the Last Supper was held at his house and where the disciples gathered after the Resurrection. He was a travelling companion of St Paul and St Barnabus. His symbol is a winged lion. How can I be more like St Mark?

St Luke
|
St Luke was originally a doctor and a friend of St Paul. He then started travelling to share stories about Jesus. He came from Antioch (modern day Turkey). On one of his trips he was shipwrecked in Malta. He wrote the Gospel of St Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. He was not one of the Twelve Disciples of Jesus, in fact he never met Jesus in person. His symbol is a winged ox. How can I be more like St Luke?

St John
|
St John was a fisherman. He and his brother James were two of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. He witnessed key moments like the Transfiguration and the Agony in Gethsemane. He stood at the foot of the cross when Jesus entrusted Mary to his care. He wrote the Gospel according to John and the Book of Revelation. He was a prominent leader in the early Christian Church. His symbol is a winged eagle. How can I be more like St John?
